What's In My Bag? | Back to School Edition | F/W 2014

Ahh look, poor quality photographs. The best kind.
Ahhh, August. Such a bittersweet month. It's still technically summer, but you have to bare the burden of school just around the corner. Some of us don't start until September. Screw you guys.

As for the rest of us, who start in late August, we need to get the cool, at least decent-looking school supplies before they run out. And boy, do they.

I've never been one to buy my school supplies early, but this year, I want to start off on the correct foot. This year I would like to get pretty decent grades. Please lord, send help.

But anyways, we all need school supplies, so I thought, "Hey, what the hell? I'll just add my thoughts to the topic!"

I went down to Office Max yesterday, and I don't know why I expected cute school supplies. Why do commercials make these things seem more appealing than they actually are?

But, I made a promise. And that promise was to give you a blogpost today. And since I have no back up plan, we're gonna stick with this. Hopefully this will help you if you're drawing a blank on what you need in your backpack, or maybe you're starting high school or middle school and have no idea what you'll need. Good luck, chum.

Binders & Paper: You're gonna need at least one binder. I cannot stand it when people get a folder for each class. You can store all the crap teachers say you'll need but will never use safely in it's protective, plastic arms. Binder dividers and paper are also crucial. I get the binder dividers that come in a pack of eight, because it's one for each class. Yes, teachers will tell you that you'll need a separate binder for their class, but I promise you this: you'll need the extra space. Now, about the paper. You can get the really bad Office Max brand that they sell for a bargain (sorry, Office Max), or you can get the extremely, expensive good shit, like Five Star. Ahh, nothing screams supporting education like selling overpriced school supplies. Also, please, for the love of God, get college ruled. You're most likely in high school. You're too old to be using wide ruled paper.

Homework Folder & Notebook:I don't know if you'll need this next item, but it's helped me out immensely. A homework folder is kind of critical for me if I need to keep my grades decent-looking. In one section, preferably the left-hand side, put in the homework you need to complete. In the other, put in the homework that you have completed and need to turn in. In my opinion, it's a much easier way of organizing your work, but that's just me. Get some notebooks and/or composition books while you're at it as well. They're kind of a "just in case" thing for me.

Planner: This is like the homework folder. It's helped me out a lot, and it might help you too. I'm one of the most unorganized people I know. I found my driving certificate under my dresser. How'd it get there? Maybe the giant spiders living in my cluttered closet moved it there. Basically, I need all the help I can get when it comes to organizing, which is why a planner is perfect for me. I like the one that I got, because I can mark down important dates on the monthly calendar, like tests, but also have sections for each date where I can jot down my homework. The color scheme and design isn't half bad either. You know, for a planner.

Other Supplies: This is basically all that other stuff you use every day, like pens, pencils, erasers, highlighters and a calculator. Pens are fucking important. Pens make the world go 'round. Pens are the shit, but unfortunately you'll make writing mistakes, so ya need some pencils and an eraser. Mechanical pencils are just better than plain wooden ones. It's an investment, I promise. They may be  more expensive, but if you buy a good one, and store it in one place, then you really only need to worry about lead. Erasers are good to have because you can't always use the one on the end of your pencil. Use that for emergencies, and get a nice pink eraser for everything else. You can thank me later. Highlighters are important, because they highlight everything important. I repeat, highlight everything important. Lastly, the calculator on your fucking iPhone 5S isn't, has never been, and will never be as good as a graphing calculator. You will use it in college, so you might as well buy one know, because pal, you're gonna need it.

Other: This is everything else. Water, phone charger, headphones, Tylenol, wallet, keys, mints/gum, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, tissues, and lip balm. Okay, now let's break this down as quickly as possible, shall we? Water: obvious. Force fluids (no, not like that, you horny teenager). Stay hydrated. Phone charger: you will get bored. You will go on your phone. It will die. Headphones: to tune out the other snotty teenagers. Tylenol: to get rid of your headache caused by the other snotty teenagers. Wallet: to spend money on snacks that will make you fat and coffee that will keep you alive during the day. Also, to feel old. Keys: to get in your god damn house, duh. If you're in high school and don't have a key to your house, you're gonna regret it when you're parent or guardian is unable to let you in and you're without a key and you have to pee. Mints/Gum: The main reason is to make your breath fresh. Don't be that weird kid and bring your toothbrush to school. It's also good if you're hungry and lunch doesn't start for another hour. Chewing gum will also make you look coo. Fact. Hand lotion: I've mentioned this before, so it won't be news when I tell you that I have incredibly dry skin. I will always carry hand lotion on me. Always. Hand sanitizer: if you're not washing your hands between classes you have a tolerance to germs that I will never understand. I'm not a germaphobe, but kids are gross, it's the truth. Tissues: But sometimes ya just need tissues, okay?! I PROMISE I'M NOT A GERMAPHOBE! Lip balm: Again, dry skin. Stay hydrated. Also hoping that my hydrated lips will trick boys into making me seem alluring. It's a stretch though.

Well, I guess that's my back to school edition of what's in my bag! Comment if you have other things you think are important. New post next Monday!

Back to School Essentials: Accessories | F/W 2014

Back to School Essentials: Accessories | F/W 2014

Back to School Essentials: Accessories | F/W 2014 by lindsay-johnson61

Time for part two of my back to school essentials! To be honest, I'm pretty surprised about how proactive i've been with these sets. Hopefully this new habit of mine will continue through the rest of my blogging days. Or years. Whatever. Link to part one is belowww.

Scarves: These babies are sooo incredibly important for winter. I can't tell you how many times I've been thankful that I've had a scarf with me, especially growing up in a state that's slogan is "The Greatest Snow On Earth." I really like big wooly scarves, in both check print and just classic colors, like grey, black, or navy.

Bags: This is a back to school essential post, so obviously you'll need a backpack. Now, depending on who you are, you'll want to get different backpack designs. Personally, I like the really simple ones with no design. I also like the ones with toile prints, because they're just gorgeous and classic.

Hat/Head Accessories: "Head Accessories"… what a weird term. Apparently you should wear warm things on your head in order to keep warm the best, or something like that. I'm obviously not a doctor. I simply like wearing beanies and berets SO so much. Basically anyone can wear a beanie, unless you're a girl with cropped hair. Then you'll just look weird. Again, simple, classic colors like back, grey, and navy blue, beige, and, if I'm feeling festive, red. I also like that kind of woven look about pom pom beanie above. I don't really know what you call that. What do you call that?! I also like wearing those fury headbands. I feel like a Russian when I wear them.

Belts: Pretty basic, pretty essential in any look. I like this belt because of the look. I love the color, and I love the braided rope. I'm not really a fan of "bling-ing" myself out (as you can probably already tell), so this belt suits. me.

Gloves: I get incredibly cold hands, and I hate it. My hands are just naturally cold. I feel like I have a medical condition. So gloves are defo in my essentials. I like plain, black leather gloves, but if I saw some with emojis or something like that, I'd probably just have to get them.

Aaaaand I think that's about it! Let me know what you thought in the comments below, and if you like these blogposts. New blogpost on Friday! Yay!

Back to School Essentials: Clothes | F/W 2014

Back to School Essentials: Clothes | F/W 2014

Back to School Essentials: Clothes | F/W 2014 by lindsay-johnson61

Ahh, August. What a ridiculous month. It's like the October of Christmas. It's still summer, but somehow the school system has managed to work it's way into the end of the month. Which means we need to get ready for autumn and winter. Pronto. So, without further a due, here are my back to school clothing essentials!

Tops: Most of the time, I stick to the basics when it comes to my wardrobe. My back to school essential tops include basic long sleeved tops, button downs, victorian/bohemian blouses, basic tees, graphic tees, pullovers, and basic cardigans. When it comes to the long sleeved tops, button downs, basic tees, pullovers and basic cardigans, I recommend getting them in colors such as grey, black, white, and navy blue. On the long sleeved tops, also get black-and-white, horizontal stripes, which are classics. Similar to that, get vertical stripes (most of the previously mentioned color ranges work),  polka dots (same on the colors), and gingham print, which is pretty on trend now. When wearing boho or victorian tops, stick to white or cream with blue accents.

Outerwear: Leather jackets are something a person just can't live without. Trench coats are not super important, but look cool and are great for when it rains. Borge coats are super comfy and warm for when it rains. Army jackets are good for layering, which is kind of essential in cool weather. And lastly, leopard print coats. My staple piece. I cannot live without leopard print in my closet.

Jeans: Jeans will never go out of style. We will always be wearing jeans, no question. My back to school essential jeans include boyfriend jeans and skinny jeans. I don't really like boyfriend jeans that are too baggy or dark in color, so I usually go for light colored ones that are basically loose-fitting skinny jeans. Now, for skinny jeans, I like black, dark grey, and a classic denim blue. Rips optional.

Shoes: A girl can never have too many shoes. I've never really thought of myself as a shoe freak, but after seeing how many shoes I put in this post, I retract that statement. I love ankle/chelsea boots, biker boots, loafers, brogues, flats, and classic trainers. Multiple colors and fabrics when it comes to most of these shoes. The strappier the better when it comes to flats, I always say! And for the trainers, some Converse and Vans will do!

Underwear: This is, obviously, essential. For school, I don't really think you need anything fancy because, come on, it's school. So I've decided to go for some easy Calvin Klein bralet and "panties". God, I hate that word. There really needs to be a better word for them. Like knickers, why don't Americans use the word knickers?!

You may or may not be wondering why there are no skirts or dresses in this post. Well, personally, I think skirts and dresses just tend to get in the way when it comes to school. I will hardly ever wear a skirt to school. I like to be comfortable, especially in school, and I always find myself fussing with the hem and such. If you do add a skirt, just make sure it's school appropriate, and don't flash anyone.

Well I hoped this has helped you decide what to buy on your back to school shopping spree! And if not, I hope you enjoyed the read. Let me know if you'd like me to do more of this in the comments down below. I'll be doing all back to school related posts this month, so stay tuned! x

Favorites | July 2014

Makeup: I'm not really the type of person to constantly be buying and trying new makeup. I tend to stick to the items that I know work really well, and my philosophy on makeup is that if it isn't broken, it shouldn't be fixed. So, with that being said, I've gone back to my ultimately favorite foundation, the YLS Le Teint Touché Éclat Illuminating Foundation. I had to take a break from this bad boy, because I had ran out of my previous bottle, and my skin and turned a shade darker from the summer sun. But I bought more, and I'm super happy to have it back in my life once again.

Another YLS product is the matching Touché Éclat concealer. I've never really used a concealer before, and I was able to get some in a set when I purchased the foundation. Personally, I think it's starting to look a little too light for my skin, but it definitely gets the job done when I need to cover my dark under eyes and frustrating spots.

Along with concealer, I've never been a big lipstick person. I usually just dust my lips lightly with my foundation to where it looks like I'm wearing something on them, but not enough to make it look like I have no lips at all. I decided it was time: I needed to find a lipstick. So I popped into Ulta and went to the Rimmel London isle. I love anything English, and I know a ton of people love Rimmel. I grabbed one of the Kate Moss lipsticks. I believe it is the Lasting Finish lipstick in shade 113, which is this extremely nude color, except it's got a tinge of pink in it, which I like, because it helps my whole 60's look I've been working on.

Last but not least is by a brand I swear by. 'Tis the Eyeko x Alexa Chung "Eye Do" liquid liner. Holy shit, this stuff is good. If you love cat eyes, and enjoy feeling like Jane Birkin and Francoise Hardy, then I highly recommend this. It's really easy to use, and it's not super sharp, making it looks slightly undone, which I love. I bought that limited addition tube thing, that came with some tissue paper with eyes on it (screams me), and a guitar pick and a poster. Super rad.

Hair: Nothing really new with hair, either, except I've been using a little bit more of my Bumble and bumble surf spray. I like the beachy texture it gives my lifeless hair. It doesn't keep the kinks as long as I'd like it to (all day), but it does look good when I give my hair a slight curl, then add the spray to make it look a little more messy.

Body: Lately I've started taking more baths, because they help with my sandpaper skin. To me, it's kinda boring only soaking in the water without some suds or salts. So, I purchased some Dr. Teal's Epson salts. And I am in love! Apparently they help with detoxing your skin, but I don't really know anything about that chemistry shit. I just know if feels good in the bath, and really helps with my sore muscles when I get done with a workout (squats hurt, man!).

Like I said, my skin is sandpaper. And it doesn't help that I live in an incredibly dry state. Thankfully it's been a bit rainier, so that's nice, but I still needed a really hydrating body lotion. I have to pay super close attention to the ingredients, because usually, when the first ingredient is water, I have to move on. But I was really fortunate enough to find a lotion that didn't have water as the first ingredient. There is a god after all. It's a Queen Helene Cocoa Butter Face + Body Cream. It's really creamy, not greasy, which is something I try to avoid. The scent is very natural smelling, and I looooove smothering it all over my body when I step out of the bath/shower.

Yay, now to can read me ramble on about my random favorites!
(If you've survived this long, kudos)

Favorite Song/s: This is really hard for me, because music is probably one of my biggest passions. I have been listening to a ton of HAIM, so I'd say they're my favorite band. But song wise, I've mainly been listening to "Don't Save Me" by HAIM, "Mote" by Sonic Youth, and "Shades of Cool" by Lana Del Ray.

Favorite TV Show: This has got to be Catfish on MTV. I fucking love this show. The people getting catfishes are incredibly gullible, and it's enjoyable to look at them get all worked up over these relationships with these phony people. I'm also gutted that the season is over, and I have to wait some more weeks (or months, I have know idea how often the seasons start).

Favorite Human: I've been watching a LOT of Cryaotic on YouTube. I like his videos because they're interesting to watch and he makes them really long—perfect for binge watching. Oh, and his voice in angelic. Go check him out if you're into YouTube gaming.

Favorite Food/Drink: In an attempt to be healthier, I've started drinking green tea. A lot of green tea. I also drink a lot of coffee and milk. Super yummy, and not lot like that fluffy shit at Starbucks that the kids drink these. Not bagging on Starbucks, but teen girls shouldn't say they like coffee if they only ever drink Vanilla Bean Frappuccinos.

Clothing & Beauty Haul: 21-22 July 2014

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the lack of posts. I've been incredibly busy with family visiting, and my mom and I just recently had a birthday. Also, homework is a pain in the ass.

But, I wanted to start posting hauls, and I had some free time on my hands so I thought, "What the hell, let's actually make blog posts." So, here we are!

On the 21st, my mom and I had to drive down to Salt Lake City to drop my cousin off at her brother's apartment, and while we were there, we decided to pop into Steinmart. Steinmart isn't really my kind of store, because most of the clothes are for women older than me. However, I did manage to find a lovely stripy dress, leggings, or tights (I have no idea what we're calling them now), a bag, and a chambray top.

The dress is really cute, but its a little short (which is why I also purchased the leggings), and the fabrics a little heavy. Personally, I think I wouldn't need the leggings if I had skinny legs. But it's fine, because the legging/tight things are really lightweight, even if I think my legs look stubby in them.

The bag is definitely my new favorite bag. It looks like a wicker basket, which makes me feel like Jane Birkin, who, according to me, is one of the prettiest people ever to walk the face of the earth. It's a really great summer bag, and can hold a lot of things, which I've never really needed, because I never have a lot of shit to put into my bags.

The day after, my friend and I went back into the city to pick up some beauty items and celebrate my birthday a little bit early, since she wasn't going to be there. The first stop on our list was obviously Sephora, where I got some excellent beauty products. I grabbed the Eyeko Deluxe Mascara Duo, which consisted of the Black Magic and Midnight Blue mascara. Both, I think, will make great substitutes to the Eyeko mascara that I already have. However, I was nervous getting the Midnight Blue mascara, because, it's blue. Like, really blue. I read on the back of the tube that the blue makes your eyes pop, and also makes the whites of your eyes whiter. Will report back if these facts are verifiable.

The next product that I grabbed was Origins Clear Improvement ® Active Charcoal Mask Pods (another mouthful, Origins knows how to name) which are basically four little sampler pods of the face mask. I'm not too sure how well Origins products work (for me, at least), because I only own one other face mask, which is nothing like the charcoal mask. But I'm really excited to see if the mask will make an improvement to my already fucked up face. :-)

Now, because my birthday was the day after the shopping trip, Sephora also gave me the Happy Birthday Beautiful birthday gift, which is a Make Up For Ever travel sized/sampler product of a mascara and a lipstick. Unfortunately, you don't get to pick out the lipstick shade yourself, but it was fine, because the shade that they do give you is really pretty, natural pinkish brown shade. It literally almost looks like the lipstick version of the skin pigment on your lips, except maybe a little browner. The mascara is intense, with an incredibly huge brush—something I'd never pick out on my own. I guess it'll be a good sub for when I run out of all the mascaras that I just
purchased.

After Sephora, we peaked into H&M, where my friend bought me a cool muscle tee that I cannot show you at the moment, because it's in the wash. But it's white, and loose and feels great. She also got me a pineapple necklace, which is pretty rad because, well, pineapples. It's gold, too, so I feel very on trend, which is something I hardly ever feel.

Subsequently, I did two things I didn't think I would ever do: purchase something from Forever 21, and purchase something at Forever 21 in the men's section. Like every teenage girl, I've purchased things from Forever, things that were very on trend for the moment. But unlike teenage girls, I prefer quality over quantity when it comes to clothes. And for me, Forever just doesn't sell good clothes. Yes, they're cute, but I've had their tops become unthreaded really quickly after purchasing. My friend wanted to pop in, and while browsing around (Yes, in the mens section. I like to know what men are buying.) I found a top that screamed me because it had dinosaurs on it. Yes, dinosaurs. I have an addiction. I'm now sixteen and I like dinosaurs like an nine-year-old boy likes dinosaurs. Anyway, the shirt is nice and lightweight, and since it was in the men's, it came in a size extra large, which is good for me, because extra large men shirts are probably one the comfiest things ever. Now I just need a boyfriend to wear it and spray his cologne on it.

PS: The photo of the dino shirt is from my Instagram, and if you want to (or not, I believe that you're intelligent enough to make your own choices), you can follow me @johnsonlindsayh

Brands I Love: Monki

Brands I Love: Monki

If you couldn't tell already, I'm obsessed with clothes. I love the different atmospheres clothes can create. And lately, I've been noticing a big trend with minimal clothes. I guess the only way to describe it is adding a couple simple pieces together to create a fab look. It also looks really good when you at statement pieces, like a graphic top or a cool bag. One brand that does this really well is Monki. They take the trending "minimal" look, and add their own twist to it, with fun prints and quirky accessories. I personally like to go back to the basics, but I love looking at their clothes—they're so cool. Unfortunately, this rad brand only ships to mostly European and Asian countries, so you can't find any shops in the US or ship through the website. You can, however, get some of their clothes that are available at ASOS, which pretty much ships everywhere.

Click on any of the little pictures to get to their website via Polyvore, and feel free to click on the big picture or any of the links above to check out my Polyvore post and account.

Trip to Maui

If you've read my previous posts, you could probably figure out that I'm going on a trip to Maui soon, and that I'm absolutely ecstatic about it. One of my favorite things (and it surprises me that this is coming out of the mouth of a teenager) is to travel, and as much as I love city vibes, it's always nice to dedicate a week or two at the beach. I'm very fortunate enough to be able to spend two weeks, which is just enough time to give me a pretty decent tan. Hopefully it doesn't end up like last year where I burnt the back of my thighs, making it almost impossible to sit anywhere.

I'll try and post new things while I'm gone, but I'll probably be spending most of my time at the beach. I'll take lots of fun pics for the next post, and you can all sit and envy me. Ha ha ha!

Till then, cheers!

2014 Beauty Product Wish List

As I continue to watch and catch up on my favorite YouTubers, bloggers, and celebs, I've been keeping my eye out on beauty products that they use, and hoping to get my hands on them! Although these products may not have the same affect on me, I'd be buying the products that my favorite people use, and that's one step closer to being them…right?

Kidding, of course….

Well, anyway! Without further a due, in no particular order, here is this year's beauty product wish list!

*Note to reader: None of these photos of mine. Took them from Google. If you see your photo, and would like me to take it down/give credit, I'd be more than happy to!

#1 - Bioderma Sensibio H20
#2 - Frank Body (Original Scrub)
#3 - Origins Drink Up Intensive Overnight Mask
(wow, ain't that a mouthful!)
#4 - ZOEVA Makeup Brushes

  1. Bioderma - I have seen Zoe Sugg (otherwise known as Zoella to the YouTube world) talk about this product under a "Monthly Favorites" video she did a while back. For as long as I can remember, I've needed a gentle makeup remover that can get the shit off my eyes without me having to rub them until my eyelashes are gone. (Maybe some of you have had a similar problem? I would like to keep my lengthy lashes, thank you very much!) I became very intrigued by it, because she said she could just put some remover on some cotton balls, press them on her eyelids, and BAM! good as new. Unfortunately, the product is only available in France, and Amazon charges a lot for a 500mL bottle. Hopefully, I will be able to get some in the not-so-distant future, and maybe, JUST MAYBE, I will get to keep my eyelashes.
  2. Frank Body - Fashion blogger Danielle Bernstein from WeWoreWhat took an adorable Instagram pic, tagging Frank in it. I stalked Frank a bit (sorry, Frank!), and I'm seriously digging some of the products! It's coffee—my absolute favorite thing on the planet—with all kinds of healthy crap in it (but not any actual crap in it, hopefully). It claims to help with acne, cellulite, and stretch marks, along with other skin problems. I really hope it works, because it seems like such a nice product. I have high hopes for you, Franky! I really hope I can get my hands on one of those cool bags in time for summer.
  3. Origins Drink Up Overnight Mask - Again, heard of this product from Zoe, and I'm DYING to get my hands on it. My friend and I have a similar problem: we get this thing called "Saltine Cracker Face Syndrome", which is where your face is so freaking flaky, it looks exactly like a saltine cracker. Ew. I was able to check out Sephora and see if they had it. (And they do, yay me!) I tried some on the back of my hand, and it did exactly what it said it would do! I would like to get it because I do travel a lot, and getting a dry face isn't really good for impressing boys—although they wouldn't be very impressed, even if I didn't have SCFS.
  4. Zoeva Makeup Brushes - It seems like everyone—at least everyone important—seems to be using these makeup brushes! Although I do like my Real Techniques brushes, I do prefer the brushes with actual animal hair. (It lasts longer, from my view point, but it really doesn't matter that much to me.) Plus, they seem to have a wider selection of brushes, compared to Real Techniques, which is a lot nicer.  Hope to get so
#5 - Nails Inc Nail Polish
    me for my birthday!
  5. Nails Inc Nail Polish - I've heard rave reviews about this nail polish, and I'm very excited because it's now available in America! Woohoo! They're a British brand, which is another reason to buy a couple colors from them. Miss Chung has been posting pictures of her fab nails on Instagram, which is making me even more obsessed, because anything on Alexa is of the upmost perfection. It is science, people! I also like how you can customize a nail polish, by adding faux diamonds and pearls on the lid, and changing the name however you want it! It would make a perfect gift!
  6. Last but not least, Bliss products - I am kinda dying to try the Bliss products, mainly because of their "FatGirl" items, and me, being a "fat" girl, kind of want to see if these products actually work. I really hope t
    #6 - FatGirlSixpack from Bliss
o get my hands on some of these products soon, especially since my trip to Maui is so close! The only problem is, some of the products are pretty expensive, so I might have to choose which one will have to work.
Well, that about wraps it up! I'm totally excited to get my hands on some of these products, and hopefully love them as much as my favorite celebrities do.

So, what are your favorite products? And what are some products that you are also hoping to try in 2014? Please fill free to leave a comment down below, I'd love to see everyone's thoughts about these products, and the other products that they are dying to try! Have a lovely day! xx

Kate Moss x Topshop Review

Kate Moss has got to be one of the coolest people on the planet. By far. She has a vibe about her that makes her appear to be so elegant and edgy at the same time, which is what I try to achieve every time I put an outfit together. Topshop is home to a good 80% of my favorite pieces of clothing, so when a huge fashion icon like Miss Moss teams up with them to create her own collection, I freak out. WOOHOO!!! I like this collection because they had four different categories and you would take a quiz to see which "Kate" fit you the most.

Sooo I took the quiz to see which "Kate" I am, and apparently I'm under the category of Balearic Dressing. After looking at the clothes under that category, I was not let down. Although aztec prints aren't really my thing, the boho looks are perfect for summer, including a suede dress and some fun paisley print. The crochet dresses are also super cool. This is obviously my favorite "Kate" by the amount of pieces I put into the set.

When I'm not looking like a dirty hippy (not my words, but very descriptive), I like to wear black. And lots of it. Which is why I think the Tailoring Noir category is another perfect one for me. I like them, particularly because you dress them both up and down, unlike the other 3 categories. The scalloped tanks are very cute, as are the frilly shorts. I loved the beaded blouse as well, because it looks like it would also come from the Balearic Dressing category. Also, who can say no to a sparkly suit?!

Because these last two categories are so small and somewhat similar, I had to combine them. Both categories involve the night. In the Cocktail Hour category, I fell in love with the LBD's, as most girls will. I loved the textures that the dresses had, like the fringe, metal beading, and feathers. I also loved the pattern of the blossom dress. The girly print with the black behind them balance each other out. Sadly, there wasn't much for me to like in the Pyjama Dressing category. I've never been a fan of wearing pajamas outside of my house, so the fact that people do it in the name of fashion confuses me. I did like the black pajama suit, though. It didn't scream "I'm in pajama's", so that's always nice. I don't know whether I would wear the pieces separate or together, but either way, they look very chic and super comfy!

In order from left to right: Balearic Dressing, Tailoring Noir, Cocktail Hour/Pyjama Dressing

Unfortunately, I can't really check out any of these clothes in person. They look pretty on the computer, and hopefully in real life, but I can't make any promises. If I lived in a state with a Topshop in it, even if it was a 4 hour drive to Topshop, I would be right there, checking out the clothes to give you an official review. But of course, I cannot.

Anyways, I hope you're just as exited about this collection as I am! What are your favorite pieces/categories? Please fill free to leave comments down below with your opinions on the Kate Moss x Topshop collection! Until next time! x

Posts Coming Soon… Hopefully

To kick of this much-needed post, I will start with a quote:
"I just want finals to be over." - Every student. Ever
Yes, it's that time of year again. Finals. Probably the most dreaded part of the school year ever. Along with many other students, I'm studying my ass off, trying to get a somewhat decent grade, which means I need to avoid social media/internet until the first week of June. Boo.

Because of this, posts will be scarce. I'm slowly creeping along, trying to get two posts done at the moment, and it hasn't been very successful. But I promise, posts will come out of their dark holes and expose themselves to the light, screeching. Much like me when I do physical activities.

See ya soon (hopefully!)

Soft Color Guide: Festivals

Me and Whitney, posing after we "decorated"
ourselves.
"Stay right there, Lindsay, the chalk looks really
cool!"
Whitney, Hailey and me after we emerged from a color throw. The guy on the right is a total diva.
Whitney in the car, looking gorgeous, even dozed in chalk.
It's the beginning of the year, which means the festivals have begun! Although a lot of them happen towards the beginning of the summer season, some have sprung up already. Last weekend, I went to the Festival of Colors, a hindu tradition, and had a blast! After coming home and reevaluating my choices, I decided it was a good idea to share some of my tips for festivals.

Firstly, there are two types of festivals. The first kind is the one where it's very simple and respectable, and people aren't getting dirty or high. For example, here in Utah, we have the Festival of Tulips, which is where gardeners showcase their tulips. The other type is like the Festival of Colors, where they're a ton of teens and young adults, people don't care how you look, and you don't care either. The tips for these festivals are very different, but the two most important rules are:
  • Arrive and leave early. You don't want to get stuck in that incredibly large line, unless you really don't give a crap.
  • Dress appropriately. You think this would be obvious, but I can't tell you how many girls I saw wear the full-on false eyelashes and 5 inch heels to the Festival of Colors. Festivals are very relaxed (unless you're going to the Vogue Festival. Then by all means, bring your newest Chanel bag.), so make sure you dress relaxed, not like you're about to go to the club.
Now, I'll just go over some tips for the more "intense" festivals, since I'll assume most of you are young and intense!

Rule #1: Bring water. Oh, and snacks*.
You don't want to get dehydrated whilst grinding against strangers. Make sure you bring as much water as you'll need. And even then, bring an extra. Even if you won't need it, you'll certainly make someone else's day a bit better. Not to mention, festivals can charge an outrageous amount for a bottle of water.
Now, on the snacks. I only put the asterisk there because it's more optional than the water is. Make sure you eat before you leave. It doesn't even have to be complicated. A simple PB&J is what I had for lunch, which is probably the best thing you could bring. If you are going to bring a snack, I would suggest that you bring something that only requires one container/bag. My friend Whitney was a genius and brought Goldfish crackers, which she shared with the group. I remember reading in Alexa Chung's book, "It", that she did not need to bring her mom's combo of hummus and carrot sticks to her festival. It's too much of a hassle. So if you are going to bring a snack, make it very simple.

Rule #2: Think of others.

This, like the dress code rule, shouldn't need to be talked about. You should already know how to behave. It's okay to let loose and to include strangers, but remember that there are some thing you just should not do. For instance, I had a fistful of yellow chalk thrown into my eye, right after we passed some girls and they informed me that I "needed some yellow". I know she did not mean it intentionally, but it all went straight into my eye, and I had to move next to the temple and away from the crowd to get it out. So if you go to a festival like the Color Festival, and you decide to throw some color on strangers, make sure its not near their face. Let their friends do that, so at least they won't rip your head off.

Rule #3: Bring wet wipes. Lots.
I can't tell you how thankful I was when I remembered to bring some wet wipes (and some panty liners and tampons, although I didn't need them) when I got the chalk in my eye. I was also very grateful when I had to blow my nose and get all of that powered gunk out and could use a wet wipe to wipe my face down. You can bring face wipes or some travel Cottonelles, or even both! Aaand last but not least:

Rule #4: Have fun!
This is the most obvious rule. Remember that during these festivals people don't judge you, and you shouldn't judge them! Don't worry about what other people are doing and, as tempting as it is, stay off your phone! You're allowed to take pictures, but don't be glued to Snap chat and Instagram afterwards. Just enjoy what you're doing at the moment, because the things on Facebook and Twitter aren't near as important as spending time with your friends.

A very bad photo of the Lotus Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, UT (the website here has a better photo). Taken by yours truly during the 1:00 PM color throw.
Hope these tips have helped! What have you done during festivals that you've regretted/been thankful for doing? I would love to hear some of your tips and stories down in the comments!
Lots of love! X

Pineapples & Palm Trees

You guys may not know this, but at the end of the school year, I'm taking a two-week vacation to Maui! So you can guess why I chose pineapples and palm trees to be today's topic.

Pineapples & Palmtrees

Pineapples & Palm Trees by lindsay-johnson61

Topshop has really outdone itself this season. All of the items, with the exception of the bikini and the shorts on the right, is from the Topshop collection. I think the shorts are perfect for the summer sun, and the matching shirt is just perfect as well.

I'm also taking a favor to the pineapple socks and the palm tree sunnies. They're cool and quirky, and not to flashy.

Pineapple prints and palm tree prints are my new favorite, especially since my summer vacation is almost in sight. So, what prints have you been obsessing over lately? And where are you vacationing this summer? Please feel free to leave a comment down below, it would be really appreciated! X

PS: After careful consideration, I've decided that from now on, I will be posting every monday, wednesday, and friday. I haven't decided on a time, although I'm probably going to go with either 9 o'clock or noon. X

About Me

Please excuse the randomness, I may have stolen it from Tumblr. And my apologies if it's kinda long, I've literally nothing better to do.

Put your iTunes on shuffle. What are the first six songs that pop up?
  1. "A Dustland Fairytale" by The Killers
  2. "Kids" by MGMT
  3. "House of the Rising Sun" by The Animals
  4. "Through the Dark" by One Direction
  5. "The Phoenix" by Fall Out Boy
  6. "Il Mondo" by Jimmy Fontona (literally the greatest song ever, next to Call Me Maybe)
If you could meet anyone on this earth, who would it be?
It would probably be Alexa Chung. She's the most perfect human being. Ever

Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 23, and give me line 17.
"Personally," I told her, pulling out a pair of black pants and

What do you think about most?
        My future.

Ever had a poem or song written about you?
Unfortunately, no. People don't like me enough to do that.

Do you have any strange phobias?
I dont' really know if this is a phobia, but I cannot stand English muffins. I'm also afraid of heights, but only when I'm not secure. Like, I can handle roller coasters, but I would just about die if someone had me get up on a ladder.

What's your religion?
        Don't have one.

If you are outside, what are you most likely doing?
Playing with my dog, Jacques. Or reading.

Simple but extremely complex. Favorite band?
Ahh, VERY difficult. It'd probably have to be the Arctic Monkeys at the moment.

What was a the last lie you told?
"Yes, Mom, we worked on the assignment the entire time."

Do you believe in karma?
        Yes. Very much.

What does your URL mean?
I think I've already explained this, but I like things that would be put under the tag of 'soft color', 'pastel', 'grunge', 'indie', etc, and soft color sounds the most delicate out that list. The "& Company" part it because it sounds more fashionable, like "Selfridges & Co."

What is your greatest weakness; your greatest strength?
My greatest weakness is that I am a perfectionist, and that sometimes I don't know what to say in certain situations. My greatest strength is that I'm pretty good at memorizing.

Who is your celebrity crush?
Boy-wise, it would have to be Alex Turner, and girl-wise, it would be Alexa Chung (funny, right?)

How do you vent your anger?
I vent to friends or listen to hard rock.

Do you have a collection of anything?
Yes, I collect bottle caps and those magnetic jewelry boxes, the ones that have jewels on them and come in different shapes, like animals and instruments and stuff.

Are you happy with the person you've become?
Yes, I think so. Although I could do better.

What's the sound you hate; sound you love?
I haaaaate the sound of nails on a chalkboard. And I love the sound of the wind.

What's your biggest "what if"?
What if I become unhappy with my choices that affect my future?

Do you believe in ghosts? How about aliens?
Yes, and maybe. With all of the undiscovered territory in the universe, there's bound to be another planet with life on it.

Stick your right arm out: what do you touch first? Do the same with your left arm.
Right arm: artificial branches painted the same color as my bedroom walls
        Left arm: my lamp

Smell the air. What do you smell?
        My perfume.

What's the worst place you have ever been to?
        My old middle school.

Most attractive singer/s of your opposite gender?
        Ahh Louis Tomlinson.

To you, what is the meaning of life?
To give life meaning (said the cliche white girl)

Do you drive? If so, have you ever crashed?
        Nope. Too young!

What was the last movie you saw?
        The Devil Wears Prada

What's the worst injury you've ever had?
Uhh I fractured my wrist once. I don't really brake bones.

Do you have any obsessions right now?
        Yes, Instagram.

Ever had a rumor spread about you?
One time, but I don't know if it counts.

Do you tend to hold grudges against people who have done you wrong?
Yes, but not very long ones.

What is your astrological sign?
        Leoooooo!

What's the last thing you purchased?
        In-N-Out Chocolate milk shake

Love or lust?
All you need is love! <3

In a relationship?
        No.

How many relationships have you had?
None. That's how much people like me. ;)

What is your secret weapon to get someone to like you?
I try to be funny, buts it's mostly just embarrassing for everyone there.

Where is your best friend?
       Across town. :(
What were you doing last night at 12 AM?
       Sleeping. I'm not very cool.

Are you the kind of friend you would want to have as a friend?
       Yes, I think so.

You are walking down the street on your way to work. There is a dog drowning in the canal on the side of the street. Your boss has told you if you are late one more time you get fired. What do you do?
I would save the dog, then call my boss and tell him. And hopefully they're not a dick and would understand.

You are at the doctor's office and she has just informed you that you have approximately one month to live. a) Do you tell anyone/everyone you are going to die? b) What do you do with your remaining days? c) Would you be afraid?
       a) Yes, but not right away.
       b) I would try and enjoy life as much as possible.
       c) I really don't know. I guess not.

Whats the song that always makes you happy when you hear it?
"Call Me Maybe" by Carly Ray Jepson or "Wannabe" by the Spice Girls

In your opinion, what makes a great relationship?
       Honesty and respect.

How can I win your heart?
       Buy me concert tickets.

Yes, the most insane people are the most creative.

To take time and focus on myself.

What would you want to be written on your tombstone?
       Carefree oddball.
Give me the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word "heart."
       Organ
Basic question: what's your favorite color/colors?
       Pink and royal blue.

What is your current desktop picture?
The Brooklyn Bridge with NYC behind it.
If you could press a button and make anyone in the world instantaneously explode, who would it be?
AHHHH okay, SOO many people, but mainly this really annoying kid in my Chemistry class. I'm about ready to murder him. And he sits IN FRONT OF ME!

What would be a question you'd be afraid to tell the truth on?
I don't really know, I'm pretty much an open book.

You accidentally eat some radioactive vegetables. They were good, and what's even cooler is that they endow you with the super-power of your choice! What is that power?
       Maybe fly? Or invisibility?
You can relive any point of time in your life. The time-span can only be a half-hour, though. What half-hour of your post would you like to experience again?
I don't know. My memory isn't really the greatest.

You can erase any horrible experience from your past. What will it be?
I wouldn't erase anything, I think my experiences make me who I am.

You have the opportunity to sleep with the music-celebrity of your choice. Who would it be?
Uhhh probably Alex Turner. Or Matt Healy. They're both soo fit.
You just got a free plane ticket to anywhere. You have to depart right now. Where are you gonna go?
       Paris. Or New York.

Ever been on a plane?
Yes, I think the daughter of a pilot would definitely be on a plane.
Give me your top 5 hottest celebrities.
       Alex Turner
       Matt Healy
       Louis Tomlinson
       Alexa Chung
       Harry Styles

Denim Dream

Ahh, what a perfect way to kick off the new season by talking about a fabric that works with almost anything and looks good on almost anyone. Denim!

Denim Dream

As you can see by the picture above, I'm going over everything. Shirts, jeans, shorts, jackets, skirts, overalls, dresses, and even some nail polish! Now, this is mostly light/blue denim. I'm not excluding black denim (which is perfect in every way), but lately I've been obsessed with light blues, so I thought I'd focus on blue denim this time.

I'm trying to actually do my New Year's Resolution this year, and Lent has certainly helped. One of my goals was to lose 30 lbs. before my trip to Maui in the summer (which is the first two weeks, agh!) So far I've lost… well, that not important. Anyway, most of my weight is in my thighs, so I loosing my thigh weight would let me look good in some shorts! Particularly high-waisted, cut-off Levi's from Urban Outfitters that I've had my eyes on for quite a while.

Denim dresses are my next favorite. I can't get over how CUTE this one is! I'm also dying to get my legs into a denim skirt, and these two (left is AA, right is Topshop) are so 90's. The denim dungarees, as the Brits call them, are super cute too! You can pair it with a graphic t-shirt or tank, or if it's really hot out, a lacy black bralette!

Boyfriend jeans are the coolest, there's no question. And I'm super happy I've finally got my hands on a pair! They're not as distressed as I would like, so I'm really happy these Zara ones are super cheap and have the perfect amount of rips and rags.

Now that I've beaten denim to death, I want to ask you: what's your favorite piece? And how do you plan on styling your denim this year? Feel free to leave a comment down below, I'd really appreciate it! x

One Last Thing!

I'm seeing that my blog already has a couple of views, so I just wanted to make a quick little note before I take off:
  1. Not all of my blog posts will be that long: That was a crazy length, and some of them will probably be shorter (or longer!), but I just want to clarify that I'm not writing novels here.
  2. I'm still fixing the bugs: Being a new blogger, I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing, and I would like to eventually have my own website, but as that may not be happening in the not-to-distant future, I'm looking at things that will work for the time being.
  3. I will try and post at least twice every month: This may or may not happen, but I think every two weeks is a good time to post.
Alright, I think that's it! Feel free to leave comments and questions, although you may just be thinking "Who the hell is this girl?!" Lots of love! Xx

Welcome

As if school and extracurricular activities—which include piano, drawing, watching YouTube, and sleeping—haven't kept me busy enough, I've decided that I would also make a blog…yay?

No, I'm kidding. Of course I've been thinking about this for a long time, and even asked my mom (or Mama J, or Ms. J, as she will later be referred to) what she thought of it. And after having many thoughtful discussions with my dog, Jacques (he's French, don't judge), I've decided to get started, although I'm sure he'd rather have me spend my extra time playing with him rather than posting about my lame life to the internet.

I don't really know what these first few posts will be about, other than they may consist of vulgar words and phrases, rants about my personal life, and meaningless photos and stories. But hopefully some of you will find this interesting and enjoy reading… or maybe not. One can dream!

I'm first going to start out by saying that I have absolutely no idea where the name "Soft Color & Co." came from, other than it sounds a bit posh. But if you've ever typed "soft color" into the search tag on Tumblr, you will find all sorts of vintage, hipster, indie/Bambi photos. And me being somewhat obsessed with everything indie-related, I've decided to choose to add that to the name. The "& Co." part came in when I was thinking about "Tiffany & Co", "Selfridges & Co", etc, etc, etc.

The blogs original name was going to be "Soft White & Co.", and even before that, "Soft White Films", which was going to be my YouTube channel name. I decided not to go straight into YouTubbing, because one) it looks like a lot of tough shit, and I don't know if I have the time/energy for that just yet; and two) If the blog goes well, and a handful of you guys would like to see my videos, then fabulous!

I don't really understand why I chose to start my blog out explaining the name and what not, but I think I did a pretty good job for the first time. Hopefully I start to get the hang of it as time goes on. Much love. Xx
